Tuesday, 17 November 2009 11:03am

The Overall Winner of ‘Oxfordshire Landscapes’ photo competition has been announced as Jem Hayward for his picture of Hook Norton village. David Mackay has been awarded the 16s and over Runner Up for his picture of Port Meadow and Jamie Unwin the Under 16s Runner Up for his Sunrise over Otmoor. Daniel Hart received a Special Mention for his picture of Iffley Lock.

The winners will be receiving prizes on 26 November at Science Oxford Live as part of the beginning of the winter series of events and the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. The overall winner will pocket a cash prize of £150, the two runner ups will receive £75 each and the Special Mention will be given a Family Friend of Science Oxford Live worth £45.

The competition invited local people to send digital photos of their favourite local landscape. Over 200 photos were entered, with a variety of subject matter. The panel of judges included local photographer John Cairns, Philip Joyce – Chairman of Oxford Photographic Society, and Dr Ian Griffin – CEO of Science Oxford. Ian Griffin said: “This year, there were a large number of entries, a wide range of interpretations and with a very high standard, judges had a very tough job shortlisting and selecting the winners. However, following much debate and discussion, a clear winner did emerge, which judges agreed gave a stunning representation of an Oxfordshire Landscape.”

The winning pictures and shortlisted entries from the competition will be exhibited at Science Oxford Live between 23 November 2009 and 9 January 2010 to accompany the Wildlife Photographer of the Year.
