A New View on Nature and Nurture

Living things are much more than just packages of DNA. In fact, organisms interact with their genes and environment in a complex way, forcing biologists to question their assumptions about the nature of humanity. Using live musical performance and scientific explanation, Denis Noble will describe how “the orchestra” is replacing “the selfish gene” as the way we think about life.

This event was filmed as part of our season entitled Nature and Nurture in Autumn 2008. Are we simply slaves to our selfish genes? Do we really have free will? What are the limits of our genetic inheritance? And how would we know? Let Science Oxford guide you through the science and ethics of genetics, as we invite you to explore the ways that Nature and Nurture make us act, think and feel.
